The Federation of housing co-operatives of Brussels is an association of 9 local co-operatives of tenants created between 1921 and 1922 and then again 1949-1950. Both periods correspond to the urgent need to find housing solutions in Brussels following the damage of the two world wars.
FESOCOLAB is defending the interests of the tenants of approximately 6000 social dwellings. The inhabitants are also full members of the co-operative and participate to the decision-making process, therefore they are becoming shareholders. To answer the needs of their tenants when their income is increasing, FESOCOLAB has developed home-owners cooperatives.
