Urbact
Background :
URBACT is the European programme on exchange of experiences between cities. Originally conceived as an instrument to capitalize the experience of cities that benefited from the URBAN programme, this is now open to every cities in the EU which want to exchange on issues such as sustainable urban planning, affordable housing policy, measures to adapt the ageing of the residents…
Concrete opportunities:
URBACT works through calls for proposals. The next call will be in the beginning of 2011.
So far 3 networks have been of particular interest for housing practionners: the HOPUS (Housing Praxis for urban sustainability; SUITE (Social and urban inclusion through housing) and CASH ( Cities action for sustainable housing) and will soon deliver concrete tools to facilitate local housing policies. But many other networks, focussing of social inclusion; deprived neighbourhoods or low-carbon urban strategies are also delivering important instruments and opportunities to exchange around local housing policies.
