Affordability
Housing cost represent a charge in disposable income and on average Eu citizens spend up to one fifth of their income on charges for fuel, maintenance and repairs, that represent the 22% of their available income with figure raising to 34% for people living alone (Source EU-SILC, 2007). The economic crisis is worsening this situation, with its effect not being figured yet.
Moreover, according to the recent Eurobarometer Perception survey on quality of life in European cities, only 27% of respondents stated that it is easy to find decent housing at a reasonable price.
Since housing and its affordability are a precondition for social development and a key driver to the economic growth for the Eu -27, CECODHAS HOUSING EUROPE believes that more affordable housing must be provided to the European citizens.
