Integration of migrants

Ensuring the proper integration of immigrants is a challenge faced by almost all EU member states. Poor housing conditions are experienced by a wide range of migrant groups of all legal statuses (immigrants, undocumented migrants, asylum seekers, and refugees) across all EU Member States.  Racial discrimination, together with the socioeconomic dimension, plays an important role in the disproportionate housing exclusion experienced by immigrants and ethnic minorities.

Tensions, discrimination and social unrest resulting from segregation, inadequate housing and social exclusion of immigrants in European cities have made the need to re-think integration policies and practices clear, and as stressed by a recent Eurofund's report on 'Demographic change and social services', housing has a key role to play in fostering integration of migrants.

CECODHAS HOUSING EUROPE has also advocated for the use of EU Structural Funds in favour of the better integration of migrants and marginalised communities.
