Community-led housing - Towards an international platform

Community-led housing has shown to be an efficient solution to the lack of access to adequate housing all over the world. 6 organizations, including Housing Europe member BSHF and Cooperative Housing International, a partner of Housing Europe, are coming together to create the platform of social production of habitat, aiming at giving a voice to the people who create new innovative housing solutions on a grassroots level.

With the collaboration of the UN rapporteur to adequate Housing, Leilani Farha, this platform will document community-led housing projects, make them visible and link them with support actors and public authorities. At the same time, the communities will develop new solidarity mechanisms in order to scale up their models.

Mariangela Veronesi of the Building and Social Housing Foundation (BSHF)- a member of Housing Europe, Julie LaPalme of Cooperative Housing International- a partner of Housing Europe, Somsook Boonyabancha of the Asian Coalition for Housing Rights, Rose Molokoane of Shack/Slum Dwellers International, Alvaro Puertas of Habitat International Coalition and Brenda Torpy of Champlain Housing Trust & Grounded Solutions Network make the case for the benefits of community-led housing.
