The key role of cooperative housing

On May 23rd the Spanish Confederation of Social Economy- Housing Europe member CONCOVI is a member- will hold the high level European event 'Madrid, European Capital of Social Economy' in collaboration with the Spanish Ministry for Employment and Social Economy Europe.

The event will have a strong European dimension as part of the wider initiative "The Social Economy, a business model for the future of the European Union" and will bring together key institutional stakeholders including the Spanish Minister for Employment and Social Affairs, Fatima Bañez; the President of the European Parliament, Antonio Tajani; the European Commissioner for the Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs, Eizbiéta Bienkowska; the European Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs, Skills and Labour Mobility, Marianne Thyssen; the President of SEE and CEPES, Juan Antonio Pedreño and the Mayor of Madrid, Manuela Carmena.

The panel discussion on " Social Economy in European Institutions" will be moderated by Carmen Casero, Director General of Self-Employment, Social Economy and CSR of the Ministry of Employment and Social Affairs. The debate will feature an exchange between: Lowri Evans, D General Director of Internal Market, Industry and Entrepreneurship and SMEs; Ramón Luis Valcárcel, Vice-President of the European Parliament and Co-Chair of the Social Economy Intergroup; Georges Dassis, President of the European Economic and Social Committee and Jens Nilsson, Member of the European Parliament and Co-Chair of the Social Economy Intergroup.

The panel on "Social Economy on the agenda of Member States" will be moderated by the Vice-President of Social Economy Europe, Juan Pablo Riesgo Figuerola-Ferretti bringing together the Spanish Secretary of Employment of the Ministry of Employment and Social Affairs with representatives of the Governments of France, Portugal, Slovenia, Italy and Luxembourg.

The Conference will be concluded by the President of the European Commission, Jean Claude Junker, Mariano Rajoy, the Spanish Prime Minister and Cristina Cifuentes, President of the Region of Madrid.
