8 Mar 22 Conference Save the date Ministerial Conference on Housing and Construction Housing Ministers are meeting in Nice Right at the start of its six-month Council Presidency, France announced its decision to reconnect the 27 EU housing ministers on the 7th and 8th of March in Nice to discuss the European challenges of a burning issue which is a national and regional competence - the access to decent and affordable housing. The last time EU housing leaders met in this format was nearly a decade ago, in 2013.

Decarbonizing the housing stock is very costly and creates a financial burden on inhabitants, often causing “energy poverty” among lower-income population. In the UNECE region which includes most of the “rich” countries in the world, almost 42 million face arrears on their utility bills and more than 52 million people cannot keep their home adequately warm. There is a need for implementing large scale housing renovation programmes that are affordable for all. Such programmes are essential to meeting the goals of the Paris Agreement and related SDGs.
26 Oct 21 Workshop Save the date Buildings at the heart of the EU’s new energy system Our EU-funded project syn.ikia showing the way at #EUSEW21 This policy session will shed light on the potential that buildings offer for a successful transformation of the energy system by 2030 by empowering citizens at all levels and enabling the scale-up of holistic energy renovations. The speakers will present inspiring initiatives and best practices that are already in place at neighbourhood (Syn.ikia’s Sustainable Plus Energy Neighbourhoods), city (the MAtchUP project in València) and community level (REScoop’s citizen-led renovation). The presentations will highlight ways to empower residents to play a role in the energy transition while responding to their needs, especially lower-income households. These solutions place buildings in a broader and more interlinked context by reducing their energy use, acting as storage and ensuring a balanced grid, integrating renewables, using smart energy management systems as well as offering people a comfortable environment where to live.
