Community Land Trust Brussels

Partner of Housing Europe

Lyon, 7 June 2019

Community Land Trust Brussels joined Housing Europe as Partner in June 2019.

Community Land Trust Brussels (CLTB) wants to produce housing and neighborhood facilities that fulfill the needs of all Brussels residents, but gives priority to those with the least opportunities. By making the ownership of land collective and the housing individual, it wants to give local communities more control over their neighborhood.

CLTB wants to ensure that housing remains affordable, generation after generation, by limiting the purchase and resale price via anti-speculative clauses. In this way, CLTB offers an alternative to the speculative housing market.

By giving the inhabitants the possibility to become home owners, and by involving them intensively in the development of housing projects and the organization, CLTB offers opportunities for emancipation and closer involvement in the way the city is developed.

By introducing next to housing also community-managed facilities, it contributes to the social cohesion of the neighborhoods in which it operates and the development of the local economy.

In all projects, CLTB seeks an optimal balance between the individual interests of the residents and the general interest of the communities in which CLTB operates, with a long term perspective. The Board of CLTB is therefore composed of three parties: (future) owners of CLTB dwellings, residents of the neighborhood and civil society, and government.
