Energy Climate
Policies
Public, cooperative, and social housing providers are already frontrunners in the fair energy transition. Their homes achieve better average energy performance than any other segment of the housing market in many parts of Europe, ensuring comfort at an affordable price for the primarily low-income families they serve.

What do we do/want?
The housing providers we represent aim to refurbish at least 400,000 homes per year — 4 million homes by 2030. This will reduce energy consumption by 50% on average in these homes, cut emissions by at least 50%, and save residents up to €700 per year.
To achieve this, public, cooperative, and social housing providers plan to invest at least €35 billion annually in new buildings, and €23 billion in renovation and maintenance. Adequate support is crucial to making these goals a reality.
Building with the planet in mind
Faced with the urgent needs of climate change, the team at one of Berlin’s municipal housing companies – HOWOGE – recognised their obligation to protect the environment. By embracing technology, the housing company has managed to significantly reduce the carbon emissions traditionally created with construction. Explore the varied technological elements HOWOGE has employed in its aim to build for the future.
