International Conference & European Social Housing Award on July 3 in Versailles, France.

Quality of life in the urban centers of tomorrow demands innovative, sustainable solutions and political will. Solar Decathlon Europe 2014 will showcase some of the most innovative concepts for future homes. CECODHAS Housing Europe along with its French member L’Union Sociale pour l’Habitat (USH) will evaluate these ideas, awarding the European Social Housing Award but will also attempt to charter the main political challenges emerging. What should be the future role of affordable housing? An international conference that will take place within the partnership framework with Solar Decathlon Europe 2014 on July 3 in Versailles in France will explore the responses the sector may provide

CECODHAS Housing Europe President, Kurt Eliasson shares the expectations that are generated through this strategic alliance:

“We team up with Solar Decathlon Europe, eager to get more ideas on how to improve and expand our work. Future-proofed housing will be central for true social resilience in our post carbon cities. To achieve this, buildings need to be designed into the energy infrastructure as highly efficient energy storage units-cum-power plants. Together with communities and cities we are helping to make that happen.

The Conference

The international conference that is the second symposium of the CECODHAS Housing Europe flagship European Project, POWER HOUSE nearly Zero Energy Challenge, will focus on social and affordable housing providers within the urban context to better understand the challenges that cities of tomorrow will be facing. Between new constructions and refurbishment plans, how urban areas should adapt to be accessible, sustainable and in line with the new lifestyles? How can the social housing sector react?
